Sunday afternoon will feature two of the most disappointing teams in the NBA as the Los Angeles Lakers will take on the New York Knicks at MSG. All eyes will surely be on Carmelo Anthony coming off of his 62 point game, which was a franchise record for points in a single game help by Bernard King, just two nights ago.
The expectation will be that the Lakers will throw double teams at Anthony all night long, as they should make the other players on the Knicks beat them. Anthony might be in line for another big game however against the defensively challenged Lakers. The Lakers are also one of the worst road teams in the NBA this year, so it seems like if the Knicks can just play with the same effort as Friday they can come out with the W.
Another key component of this game will be mid-afternoon tip off time, because the Knicks have been pitiful to say the least at getting up for afternoon games. They just don’t come out energetic for these early games and it’s a real issue they have to fix.
The Knicks will have to defend the three point line in this game as shooters like Jodi Meeks, who has scored 18.4 per game and hit 25 of 59 from beyond the arc in his last 11 games, and also deal with the ever so erratic shooting of Nick “Swaggy P” Young, who really I just wanted to mention due to his nickname, but he is leading the Lakers in scoring (17.1 ppg) thusfar. Also Pau Gasol has been playing well lately averaging 21.9 points and 12.0 rebounds over his last seven games.
It should certainly be a high scoring, lackluster defensive affair at the Garden on Sunday afternoon.
