New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets – A Timeline Of Love

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets have had a long off-season love fest talking about New York City ownership. Of course everybody from this area knows this is a Knicks city and always will be, it is just a historical fact and reality. When the Nets were in New Jersey, they had 14 fans who all lived right off the Turnpike. When the Nets moved to Brooklyn, they picked up another 200 fans, 100 of whom just liked Jay-Z and 100 of whom just thought the jerseys looked cool. Regardless, let’s run through some of the quotes from the past few months and translate them

“Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it’s grown to another level, I think it’s time for the Nets to start running this city.” – Paul Pierce

TRANSLATION - I can’t believe I had to move down the damn I-95 at this stage of my career. Where am I going to live? I miss Doc :(

“I just look at him as a bitter person just getting out of Boston. He doesn’t really know what New York is all about. He’s been playing in Boston his whole career. Just know that his words have consequences and he’s going to have to pay for them.” - JR Smith

TRANSLATION - BOROUGH WARFARE! And JR is equipped for the attack.

“Oh yeah. Right now it might be like 70-30 but we’re gonna push that the other way,” - Paul Pierce on the fan division in New York

TRANSLATION - Let me just pull some numbers out of thin air that sound kind of reasonable but are rounded a little higher towards to the Nets total.

“They’re in one borough, we’re all over. So it’s like, you’re on an island and we’ve got the whole country. So it’s nothing really to even talk about,” - JR Smith

TRANSLATION - Smith should start speaking strategy at West Point.

“They will never take over the city. Because we’ve got ‘New York’ on our chest. They’ve got ‘Brooklyn’ on their chest, and we’ve got ‘New York.’ They’ll never take over the city.” - Raymond Felton

TRANSLATION - The Knicks are literate. The Nets and their Russian owner are not.

“We want to run New York” - Deron Williams

TRANSLATION - As long as our coach listens to me, otherwise he needs to step down.

“Maybe the Rucker Park Championship. I don’t know, not the NBA championship. I don’t see how they could guarantee that, at all”. - Jason Terry on the Knicks chances at a championship

TRANSLATION - I can’t believe I am being included on the promotional #HELLOBROOKLYN posters. Did they see me play last year?

“-” - Joe Johnson

TRANSLATION - I have no discernible personality or fire.

“Knicks and Nets will be the best rivalry in basketball this year” - Carmelo Anthony

TRANSLATION - If JR is mentally AWOL again and Shump doesn’t grow up, I might have to take 40 shots to beat this team…and that’s okay.
