TOK Game Preview: New York Knicks vs. Golden State Warriors

Current Standings – New York – 3rd in the Eastern Conference (7.0 games behind Miami), 1st in the Atlantic Division (1.5 games ahead of Brooklyn) Golden State – 6th in the Western Conference (11.5 games behind San Antonio), 2nd in the Pacific Division (7 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers).

Previous Meeting – Going back to last season, the Knicks lost on the road, 92-78 on December 28, 2011.

What To Watch For – New York got a win against Philadelphia which snapped a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season. Look for the Knicks to get Anthony good looks right off the bat. If he can get hot early the Knicks will be in a great position for the rest of the game. The Knicks are home which is very advantageous because they could really use a win tonight. They are only one game behind Indiana with the Nets nipping at their heels for the first place spot in their division. The Warriors are 1-6 in their last seven road games and the Knicks need to capitalize.

Injury UpdateNew York – PF, Rasheed Wallace and C, Marcus Camby are both out. As of today, Rasheed Wallace plans to undergo surgery on his left foot that will end his season. SF, Carmelo Anthony and PG, Raymond Felton are currently listed as day-to-day. Golden State – PF, David Lee is listed as day-to-day and is out with a one game suspension and C, Andrew Bogut is out of tonight’s game. This will be beneficial to Tyson Chandler as he has one less big man to deal with. Chandler who has a tendency to get in foul trouble will hopefully make it through this one because the Knicks will need all the defensive help they can get.

Key Matchup – Raymond Felton vs. Stephen Curry. Curry’s athleticism and creative ability to score may give Felton some trouble on the defensive end. Felton has to be successful in staying in front of Curry in order to prevent other Knicks defenders from switching and leaving their man open. Felton also has to prevent any success by Curry from leaving him flustered. Felton has a tendency to take some rushed and questionable shots at times and tonight that cannot happen.

Knicks Win If – They come out and limit the success of Stephen Curry. The Warriors will be looking to give their best scorer high-percentage opportunities and the Knicks have to limit their ability to do so. If Felton can make a defensive stand the Knicks should be able to take this game, assuming Anthony can generate his usual scoring output with a fairly high scoring percentage.

Warriors Win If – Stephen Curry gets hot and Anthony shoots like he did the last time the Knicks played the Warriors; 3-13 from the field for 13 points. The Knicks can sometimes let a small deficit get to their heads so they cannot let a run by Golden State affect them mentally.
